Background:
Suburban Hospital is a 228 bed
community-owned hospital serving Montgomery County
and the surrounding area since 1943. It is the cornerstone
of the Suburban Hospital Healthcare System, a not-for-profit
healthcare provider that distinguishes itself through
service and clinical excellence, affiliations with
the National Institute of Health, Johns Hopkins Medicine
and state-of-the-art technology.
Until 2000, Suburban Hospital used
a proprietary access control system that was no longer
going to be supported by the original dealer. The
Hospital retained Securityhunter to develop a new
access control and video system that would accommodate
its 2,500 card users and multiple gate operators.
System Highlights:
Suburban Hospital had not committed
funding for an entirely new system and did not want
to disrupt its operation by re-badging their very
busy medical professionals. Securityhunter’s
solution: developed a plan to upgrade & customize
the existing access control system. Using the existing
infrastructure, Securityhunter engineered a design
plan that worked with the existing wiring, allowing
the entire staff to continue the use of their existing
badges for access. Securityhunter replaced the entire
access control system in less than days and installed
dozens of Pelco video cameras around the facility
shortly after.
Results:
Suburban Hospital having saved a significant amount
of money using their existing wiring and is fortunate
to have a service provider who could develop and maintain
a customized upgrade solution. Securityhunter worked
with Keyscan, the access control manufacturer, to
develop software to import the files. Most important
was the time saved, not requiring all cardholders
to retake their photo images and process new access
cards. |
