Background:
In the past 90 years, Union Station has welcomed 17 Presidents, numerous foreign representatives and U.S. government officials. Today, approximately 25 million people travel through this site annually, visiting its more than 100 shopping and dining outlets. As a major Washington transportation hub, it houses national, regional and local systems including AMTRAK, MARC Trains, Gray Line Tours, Old Town Trolley, Tourmobile and Virginia Railway Express.
The Station’s management company, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), was seeking a higher level of maintenance and enhancements to their security system which was particularly important for a highly trafficked site in the nation’s capital. Securityhunter, which had been working successfully with JLL at other retail shopping mall properties, was selected to update, improve and maintain the station’s entire security system using the latest technology.
System Highlights:
Securityhunter upgraded Union Station’s existing fixed camera video system to include pan tilt zoom (PTZ) cameras. Pelco equipment was selected and the technology was installed with 100% fiber optic transmitters. The upgrade also included the installation new digital monitors and digital recording equipment enabling security personnel to watch and track activity in the station from a central security command center.
Results :
Union Station now features some of the most advanced security capabilities of any transportation hub in the United States. Securityhunter is currently providing enhanced technology and continues to maintain and inspect Union Station’s integrated security system on a quarterly basis.
