Access Control 101

Access Control can be defined as a security system that allows certain individuals to access certain areas or computer systems at certain times. The three basic formats of an Access Control System include;

WHAT YOU HAVE

Users have a physical access card; proximity card, smart card or magnetic stripe card.

 
WHAT YOU KNOW

Users possess a multi-digit personal identification code (PIN)

 

WHO YOU ARE

Users scan his/her iris, fingerprint, hand or voice to a biometric reader
